Crayons

Okay, I'm a big dork, but I think these are neat. I love crayons. Still. They even have Puerto Rico in there! Wisconsin's is about what you would expect (cheese anyone?).

Via Althouse

Finished Fool's Errand.

And I am now recaught in the addiction that is Robin Hobb books. They are excellent epic fantasy, and make waiting for the next George RR Martin book to make it's debut a bit eaiser. Fool's Errand (book 7 in what appears to be a nine-part series) just rocked. You get reintroduced to old friends from previous books, and meet some new ones that were only hinted at in the past books. I would be out purchasing the next two in the series (it's a complete series, even more joy), but I am scared to leave my house today, especially to go to the bookstore.

I am about halfway into "Femme Fatale", which is the most recent book in Carole Douglas Nelson's Irene Adler series. It's a Sherlock Holmesian series, based off a minor character in the Holmes story "A Scandal in Bohemia". It's excellent historical (Victorian) fiction, and I am enjoying the book muchly.

Christmas Lights A Go-Go

This is funny. As a kid, my mom & grandmother always took my brothers and I on a lights drive Christmas eve so "Santa" could leave our presents. So the idea of a huge light display even excites me today. Although now that I am older, I more appreciate the tacky part, compared to being a kid when all the displays were pretty.

Dolphins be Neat

From CNN (via Boing Boing) dolphins in New Zealand save some swimmers from sharks. See, even the dolphins are good in New Zealand!

iCracks Latest

New song of the week up-Breathe (2am) by Anna Nalick. I am really liking it-it has the whole female singer-songwriter thing going on, but the singer sounds vaguely country, but not in a bad way (I'm not a big country fan). So far it's the best song I've downloaded for free from iCrack.

'80s Fun?

The '80s Tarot

"The Briar King"

Finished "The Briar King" by Greg Keyes this weekend. It was very good-it felt George RR Martinish, but much breifer (not as many twisted threads to follow). I will certainly have to purchase the second in this series "The Charnel Prince".

I just started "Fools Errand" but Robin Hobb. Both Myrt and I read her other two series "The Farseer Trilogy" and "The Liveship Traders". Very good epic fantasy.

The Eagle Party

Check this out. This is a great idea, and it's nice to find more like minded people who are more moderate (not sure if moderate is the right word for this, but it works for now) in their views. I'm an independent and I really don't feel a strong identification with either major party or any of the smaller parties available to vote for. This platform really rings true with most of my political views. I will definitely be following up with this plan, and trying to contribute something to it.

500 Greatest Songs

By Rolling Stone Magazine. Yeah, I don't agree with all of them (sorry, Nirvana dosen't rock my boat) but it's still fun to look at and see what you agree & disagee with. I kind of agree with this assesment. It's pretty sad that for the last ten years we only have about 11 songs, and several of those are by the same artist. No Smashing Pumpkins (but they have the B-52s?) and the Weezer song they have listed is Buddy Holly? Not that it's a bad song, but still?

Thanks to Instapundit for the links.

It must be getting close to the end of the year, as I am seeing many "Best Of" lists.

Sexy fun

This site is fun!

Probably not safe for work, as the site's author is a former sex columnist, but still a good read.

Gnomes!

See this. Perhaps underware gnomes?

For movie lovers....

....or people who just like quotes, here is the list of the movie quotes nominated for the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest's movie quotes.

They are pretty fun, even if an Ace Ventura, Pet Detective line gets a mention.

(Thanks to Althouse for the link.)

Catblogging

I don't have a digital camera, so no pictures of my kitties today. But for your adorable cat fix, try this.

Target Controversy?

Apparently Target will not be having bell ringers for Salvation Army this year (see here for a round up of articles on this, you will need to scroll a bit). Personally, this makes little to no difference to me, as the bell ringers start to drive me nuts after a while. I don't mind giving the money, in fact I almost always toss in something when passing them. It's just nice to think that while out shopping there is at least one less think to think about when exiting/entering a store, and one less cause of congestion at the enterance. Plus, I know that when I christmas shop, I go to multiple stores so the ringers will still get my change other places. And then I won't have the "I didn't drop anything in the bucket" guilt the few times I don't have change/bills conveinent on my way out/in. I just don't understand why people are making a mountain out of a molehill, especially during a season when there are tons of ways to donate some extra cash.

Neatness

This site rocks.......

Books....

Currently reading The Briar King by Greg Keyes, first in a series (I assume it will be a trilogy. It is a fantasy novel, people. They always come in threes. Kind of like blind mice...). Anyway, it's v. good so far. Dark, with good characters (multiple view points) and possible church corruption (a favorite of mine).

Just finished The Spirit Ring by Lois McMaster Bujold. Decent book, horrible cover. Truly awful. I think it must be the publishing house (Baen), as they also did Mercedes Lackey's Bardic books and they all had wretched covers. But, back to the book. It wasn't as complicated as I would have like-it read more like YA fiction instead of a complicated fantasy novel like I was expecting (the last book I read by this author was like that, v. good). Anyway, it was a nice, easy read while I wait for no book buying season to end (then, oh yes, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell will be mine! Yes mine.)

Anyway, anyone else reading anything good or have anything fun to recommend?

Other Icrack goodness

I also downloaded another Ben Folds ep-v. good. And Pinkerton by Weezer.

ICracks' New Song o' the Week

So, ICrack (iTunes) is Push Me Off by Drist. Very Filter-esq, only the lead singer's voice is much less manly than the oh so sexy and manly voice of Filter's lead singer. So, not too bad.

Online Quizzes

This is fun. And this.

I'm an intellectual. And 60% capricorn.

Yea!

I actually got off of work on time today. That's two days in a row. Of course, this means something big will blow uop tomorrow.

I'd vote for him

Well, maybe not, but it's still fun! And, Catrina and Willemina may be the only ones who will care about this besides me.

~Now these are very silly little boots, Jones. And this is a very silly little dress. And, um, these are... fuck me! Absolutely enormous panties!

Gobble Gobble

And we now have a Thanksgiving color scheme. It looks like the green borders will be with us for a bit, as that seems to be the reason I was having difficulity loading the new colors before. They don't look as bad as I thought they would with the orange and brown, which is a good thing.

Oh, and I demand cookies for this. REAL COOKIES! With sprinkles.

Long quote today, but it's worth it.
:)

~Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

IPod Phone

Want so bad....make them soon Apple, please....

Added Links! Woot!

In my continual effort to "hog" the blog (unlike some people, I sleep at night and work all day, and therefore I can only post at certain times) I have added for links for your pleasure. Wonkette (just funny), Oh My Gods and Ozy and Millie (comics you should read) Fafblog (Sifl and Olly on crack, but the good stuff), and Neil Gaiman's Journal. Enjoy!

PS-the link issue is fixed.

Absinthe and Chocolate?

Yummy in my tummy. (Thanks to Boing Boing for the hat tip).

The idea of this makes me want to sing "Cigarettes and chocolate milk" by Rufus Wainwright.

Fun Name of the Day

Kermit Kernen

This just seems appropriate...

"See that asshole with the peace sign on his license plate
giving me the finger and running me out of his lane.
God made us number one cause he loves us best
well, maybe he should go bless someone else for a while, give us a rest."

All You Can Eat, Ben Folds

Yeah, it was a bad day.

Sad Dootswana in snow?

So, I've been thinking about changing the color scheme for our little blog here, and was wondering about your ideas on this. I was messing around with the html tonight and think we should get away from the green and go with something else... Personally, I'd love a black and red theme (admit it, you know you want it), but realize that some of you may not agree (because you're a Stupid McStupidson). So, give me some input here, or if you want me to have free reign to make the blog pretty, I'll give you a cookie. Seriously, I will. No lies.

And, on a side note, who supports the idea to make the blog red and green once we get closer to Christmas? Let me know!

~What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

ARGH!

My computer hates me... I've been trying to post something for about 10 minutes now, but everytime I go to preview it, it's blank. How have I offended the internet to deserve this? *hmph* Oh, well. We'll see if it worked this time.

~ Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Neener...neener...neener

I feel so special. I figured out how to add links. Now I wanna dance...

~So, you're not gonna go to law school? What do you wanna do then?
~I wanna dance!

Here we go

So, I feel the need to post something, since Moonshower seems to be hogging the blog. But, alas, I have nothing to say. Such a pity, especially since I am one who always has something to say. Oh well, c'est la vie. I shall try again later, so beware!

Oh, and I should also let you know, I like to end my posts with a random quote, mostly from movies or song lyrics. So, enjoy! Ooo.. and cookies to those who know where it's from. (Ok, maybe not actual cookies, but I'll e-mail you pictures of cookies.)

Update: FYI-links aren't working....don't know why....I really am sad. Added URLs 'til I can get to the bottom of the link issue.

iCrack Song o' the Week

The iTunes (aka ICrack), free song of the week is Based on a True Story by Ms. Triniti. Not bad, strongly reminds me of Lauryn Hill. Will download (it's FREE) and try it out.

Bells for People

Cats wear them. People should too, as then no one can ever sneak up on me at work AGAIN. This is serious people. I don't need my first heartattack at 23 whilst working. That's too depressing.
